Privacy policy

What we collect, what we don't, and the choices you have. We've kept it short because we keep data collection small.

Starting template, not legal advice. This policy is a plain-language starting point that reflects how the site is built. Review it with a qualified professional and add your legal name and contact details before treating it as final.

The short version

We run privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics, we never sell your data, and we don't run cross-site advertising trackers. The only personal data we deliberately collect is the email address you give us if you choose to join the newsletter.

Analytics (self-hosted, cookieless)

We use Matomo, an analytics tool we host ourselves on a separate domain — your visit data is not shared with a third-party analytics company. We run it in cookieless mode: it sets no tracking cookies and does not follow you across other websites. It records aggregate, non-identifying information such as pages viewed, approximate region, referrer and device type, with your IP address anonymised.

We honour your browser's "Do Not Track" signal. You can also opt out at any time using the analytics choice in the cookie banner; we remember that choice in a single first-party preference cookie (tvt_analytics) that contains only your yes/no decision — it is not a tracking cookie.

Newsletter (Brevo)

If you sign up for the newsletter, your email address is handled by Brevo, our email provider, who stores the list on our behalf. We use double opt-in: you'll get a confirmation email and are only added once you click the link. Our own server keeps no copy of your address — it stores only an anonymised, one-way hash for basic anti-abuse counting. You can unsubscribe from any email at any time, which removes you from the list.

Contact form

When you message us through the contact form, your message is emailed straight to us so we can reply. We don't store contact-form submissions in a database on this site. We'll keep the email correspondence only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links — typically "where to watch" or relevant books and box sets — are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and the retailer (not us) processes that purchase under their own privacy policy. Affiliate links are disclosed on the pages where they appear.

Server logs

Like virtually all websites, our hosting keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested page, user agent) for security and troubleshooting. These are retained for a short period and not used to build a profile of you.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU/UK GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because we hold very little — essentially your newsletter subscription — most requests are quick to action. To make a request, or to ask anything about this policy, use the contact page.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children under 16. We don't knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

We may update this policy as the site evolves; we'll change the "last updated" date above when we do.
